"Bird Tree", Greeley Uptown Tree Project

On Wednesday September 30th, we installed the "Bird Tree" on the corner of 8th Avenue and 13th street in Greeley Colorado. This piece is part of the City of Greeley Uptown Tree Program, which aims to develop a Downtown/UNC Art Walk corridor in collaboration with the Community Development’s 8th Avenue improvements and the Downtown Development Authority. The Art Walk's goal is to link the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) campus to downtown Greeley with a trail of artwork for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists to enjoy. The Uptown Tree Program plans for (20) original sculptural art trees to be installed along 8th ave.

We coordinated the fabrication of the artwork from Seattle. Rocky Mountain Waterjet, LLC in Greeley did the metal cutting, facilitated the powder coating of the components and functioned as our base for assembling the piece.

The sculpture has two mobile components, a wind powered turbine as the center ball and a silver "spinning spider" detail on one of the petals.
